NEW YORK (AP) -- Del-Nat Tire Corp. says it will pull 2,663 Chaparral Radial XT tires off the market because of a defect that could increase the chances of a crash.
The Memphis, Tenn., company says the tires do not meet federal safety standards because they have blistering or bubbles on the sidewall. The blistering could cause pieces of the tire tread to come off, exposing the belt edge and allowing air to escape. The company says those problems could make a crash more likely with extended use.
The recall is expected to start Monday, and it affects tires made between September 2008 and December 2009. The tires were made in China by Guizhou Tyre Corp.
Del-Nat says it will notify owners and dealers and replace the tires for free.
