Aluminum Plant Manager Pleads Guilty To Environmental Charges

A former manager at a southern Kentucky aluminum production plant has pleaded guilty in federal court to environmental charges.

GLASGOW, Ky. (AP) -- A former manager at a southern Kentucky aluminum production plant has pleaded guilty in federal court to environmental charges.

The Glasgow Daily Times (http://bit.ly/HLDyD7) reports Daniel Evanoff, who managed the J.L. French plant in Glasgow from 2007 to 2009, entered the plea on Tuesday. The newspaper cites court records in reporting that he pleaded guilty to defrauding the federal government and violating the Clean Air Act by tampering with a required monitoring device.

An indictment last year charged that Evanoff and other coconspirators agreed to create false records concealing that the plant exceeded production and air emissions limits. The indictment said Evanoff directed others to install a temperature resistor on air pollution control equipment to create a false temperature reading.
