Daimler AG has reported strong sales in February for its Mercedes-Benz luxury brand, helped by booming business in China.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Daimler AG has reported strong sales in February for its Mercedes-Benz luxury brand, helped by booming business in China.

Worldwide sales for Mercedes cars and SUVs jumped 20 percent compared with the same month a year ago, to 95,647 vehicles.

In China, unit sales rose 57 percent to 19,205 vehicles. Sales rose 17 percent in the U.S., another key market.

The company did well even in Western Europe outside Germany, where consumers have been unsettled by Europe's government debt crisis. Sales rose 9.3 percent.

Germany's luxury automakers reaped bumper earnings last year thanks to strong sales in emerging markets in Asia and South America.
