RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a former president for the Mace tear gas and pepper spray company in Vermont has pleaded guilty to storing hazardous waste without a permit.
Investigators say they found dozens of drums of unlabeled chemicals around 2008 and many contained hazardous waste.
The U.S. attorney's office says Jon Goodrich was president of operations for Mace Personal Defense Inc. in Bennington, where the Mace Security International Inc. subsidiary is based. Prosecutors said Tuesday that Goodrich will have to pay a $100,000 fine and will receive a probationary sentence if the court accepts the terms of his plea agreement.
A sentencing hearing is set for May 2 in Rutland.
Mace previously pleaded guilty and paid a separate $100,000 fine. It says it spent $785,000 cleaning the site.
Goodrich and his attorney haven't returned telephone or email messages seeking comment.
