Fortis Plastics Plans To Close Indiana Factory

A plastics company based in northern Indiana has told state officials it is on the verge of closing both its factory and corporate offices.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- A plastics company based in northern Indiana has told state officials it is on the verge of closing both its factory and corporate offices.

Fortis Plastics says it expects by the end of the year to close its South Bend factory with about 70 workers and its offices, which has 17 employees.

A letter to the state Department of Workforce Development says the closures are needed because the company hasn't been able to secure additional capital, although it is still trying to do so.

The company has also told state officials in Missouri and Arkansas that it expects to close factories in those states, costing about 230 jobs.
