Tata Chemicals Announces 'Best Chemistry Teacher' Award

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, September 5, 2011 /India PRwire/ -- United Nations has declared Year 2011 as the 'International Year of Chemistry (IYC) 2011' - a worldwide initiative focusing on the achievements of Chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind (www.chemistry2011.org). Today, on the occasion of Teachers Day, Tata Chemicals announced the "Best Chemistry Teacher Award (BCTA)" to recognize Chemistry teachers in India. The initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT). Through this initiative, Tata Chemicals will recognize exemplary individuals involved in teaching Chemistry and its allied components.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Murali Sastry, Chief Scientific Officer, Tata Chemicals Limited, said, "Most of us owe it all to our teachers. But it is also true that once we've passed through the portals of educations, we tend to forget the dedication our teachers showed in making winners out of us - ordinary people. Nominations of teachers involved in teaching class XI and XII, graduate courses and post graduate levels are solicited through the website www.humantouchofchemistry.com apart from the vast network of Association of Chemistry Teachers in India. The winners will be selected by an eminent panel comprising of scientists, industry professional and academia apart from the response of students through various social media platforms.

Dr. Sastry further added that "Chemistry is a vast subject and touches each and every one of us in many ways in our day to day lives. In this International Year of Chemistry, BCTA is our humble way to paying a tribute to our Chemistry teachers. I am very excited about the process and as the chairperson of the selection panel; I am looking forward to get a lot of nominations from deserving candidates."

Teachers can be part of this competition by process of self nomination, nomination though a nominator i.e students/ colleges/others and nomination through ACT regional offices.
