Toyota Sales Drop 22.7 Percent

Toyota says its July U.S. sales dropped nearly 23 percent as it continued to deal with parts shortages caused by Japan's earthquake.

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- Toyota says its July U.S. sales dropped nearly 23 percent as it continued to deal with parts shortages caused by Japan's earthquake.

The Japanese automaker sold 130,802 vehicles in the U.S. last month, down from 169,224 a year earlier.

The company has struggled to get enough vehicles to U.S. dealers following the March earthquake and tsunami, which disrupted auto factories.

Demand for the top-selling Camry tumbled almost 23 percent, while Corolla sales fell nearly 36 percent.

Sales of the Prius hybrid, which is made only in Japan, dropped 44 percent to 7,907.

Demand for the Sienna minivan edged up 2.3 percent to 10,620.

Compared to June of this year, Toyota says sales rose 17.9 percent.
