Hitachi plans to halt manufacturing of televisions and outsource production to other companies amid cutthroat competition, sources close to the matter said.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Hitachi Ltd. plans to halt manufacturing of televisions and outsource production to other companies amid cutthroat price competition, sources close to the matter said Wednesday.

The electronics company started making televisions in 1956. It is considering ending TV output at a group company plant in Gifu Prefecture, they said.
