CAT Expansion To Create 250 Jobs

The $50 million expansion project is expected to create about 250 new jobs, nearly doubling the current workforce at the plant.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A $50 million expansion project is planned at a North Dakota heavy equipment manufacturing company.

Caterpillar Inc. officials and Gov. Jack Dalrymple announced the plans Monday for the company's West Fargo plant. It's expected to create about 250 new jobs, nearly doubling the current workforce at the plant.

The project includes a 225,000-square-foot addition to the plant where Caterpillar employees remanufacture parts for mining equipment. It is slated to be completed in June.

Dalrymple says state and local officials began promoting the project in April, and told Caterpillar executives they would receive strong business support and benefit from low taxes.

Caterpillar spokesman Greg Folley says remanufacturing is "an attractive, growing and sustainable industry."
