GE's Immelt Visits SC To Focus On Manufacturing

The chair of President Barack Obama's jobs and competitiveness council is touring his company's gas turbine plant in Greenville to showcase export efforts.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The chair of President Barack Obama's jobs and competitiveness council is touring his company's gas turbine plant in Greenville to focus on manufacturing in America.

General Electric Co. Chairman and CEO Jeffry Immelt is scheduled to meet Wednesday with employees and touring GE's manufacturing and engineering complex.

Company spokesman Mark Reilly says Immelt is scheduled to view the firm's new gas turbine test site. Reilly says it runs turbines at their fullest capacity to judge heavy-duty conditions before they are shipped to customers. Reilly says all turbines produced at the site are made for export.

Obama tapped Immelt as head of his 22-member advisory Council on Jobs and Competitiveness in January.
