Albemarle Raising Some Prices

Maker of flame-retardant chemicals used in consumer electronics, insulation and wiring said it will raise prices by 15 percent for some of its products.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Albemarle Corp., which makes flame-retardant chemicals used in consumer electronics, insulation and wiring, said Thursday that it will raise prices by 15 percent for some of its products.

The increase in what the company termed the neat portion of its metal alkyl products will take effect July 1 or when permitted under contracts. The company said prices for solvent blends of metal alkyls will also be increased "as needed" but didn't provide figures.

Albemarle did not immediately return messages for comment.

Shares of Albemarle fell 72 cents to close at $67.75.
