Phoenix Packaging Operations is planning to expand its plastic manufacturing operations, creating 100 jobs and investing $17.5 million for the project.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Phoenix Packaging Operations is planning to expand its plastic manufacturing operations in Pulaski County, creating 100 jobs.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Tuesday that the Grupo Phoenix subsidiary will invest $17.5 million for the project. Officials say that with the expansion, Phoenix Packaging Operations will have created a total 340 jobs for Pulaski County in two years.

The facility makes thermoformed rigid plastic packaging for customers in the U.S.

Privately owned Grupo Phoenix employs more than 4,000 people in four countries and exports to 30 countries worldwide.

McDonnell approved a $350,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance also will provide funding and services to support the company's recruitment and training activities.
