Nebraska To Get $425K From Dannon

Dannon agreed pay $21 million in a settlement with 39 states and drop some health claims for its Activia yogurt and DanActive dairy drink.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- A national settlement yogurt maker Dannon Inc. agreed to will help feed the hungry in Nebraska.

Dannon agreed pay $21 million in a settlement with 39 states and drop some health claims for its Activia yogurt and DanActive dairy drink under pressure from state and federal regulators.

The food company has claimed in marketing that its Activia yogurt helps relieve irregularity and that its DanActive drink helps people avoid catching colds or the flu.

The Federal Trade Commission said there wasn't enough evidence to back those claims.

Nebraska received $425,000 from the settlement. Attorney General Jon Bruning will give a $225,000 check from the settlement to the Food Bank of the Heartland in Omaha on Tuesday. Four other Nebraska food banks will also get checks.
