Goodyear Recommends Checking Plane Tires For Wear

Tire maker said Tuesday that aircraft tires should be routinely inspected before flight, including checking tire pressure, remaining tread and uneven wear.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Checking tires for wear is important on airplanes, not just cars and trucks, according to Goodyear.

The tire maker said Tuesday that aircraft tires should be routinely inspected before flight, including checking tire pressure, remaining tread and uneven wear.

Tires wear the most during takeoff because the plane is loaded with fuel and tires are heated by taxiing. They can wear faster than normal from sharp braking, high-speed taxiing and high-speed cornering, Goodyear said.
