DuPont Investing Rail Car Leak In W.Va.

Company says monomethlyamine, also called MMA, was released from a rail car as a worker was collecting a sample to check for product quality.

BELLE, W.Va. (AP) -- DuPont says it's investigating the release of a chemical from a rail car at its plant in Belle.

DuPont spokesman Dave Hastings says in a news release that two workers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation after the incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Friday.

Hastings says monomethlyamine, also called MMA, was released from the rail car as a worker was collecting a sample to check for product quality.

DuPont estimates the release was well under the reportable threshold of 100 pounds. The company says it has notified state and local officials about the incident.
