Toyota Fixing Prius Coolant Pump

Automaker is fixing the coolant pump in 650,000 Prius hybrid cars around the world but says the action isn't a recall.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Toyota is fixing the coolant pump in 650,000 Prius hybrid cars around the world but says the action isn't a recall.

Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Paul Nolasco said Tuesday that the coolant pump in the hybrid system of the Prius, models years 2004 through 2007, is being replaced because it doesn't work properly.

The Japanese automaker is calling it "a customer satisfaction campaign." Of the Prius cars that need fixing, 390,000 are in North America and another 180,000 are in Japan.
