DETROIT (AP) -- Federal regulators are deciding whether to look into complaints of unintended acceleration in Honda Accord gas-electric hybrids.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a woman claimed a 2005 Accord Hybrid accelerated out of control on its own, leading to a fatal accident. She told the agency that the car lost braking power after crossing over rumble strips, then accelerated. The complaint says the car crashed into oncoming traffic and killed her passenger.
The NHTSA says it will decide whether or not to investigate 2005 Honda Accord Hybrids for a possible recall due to problems with the antilock brake controls.
The driver reported that she was disabled in the July 23, 2005 crash, and people in two other cars were hurt.
About 25,000 vehicles may be affected.
