DuPont Africa Employs Brand to Attract Talent
DuPont recently participated in the Recruiting Africa Summit, underscoring the company’s commitment to promote DuPont as an employer of choice in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event aimed to harness the power of employees in building the DuPont brand and strengthen a deeper understanding of the local cultural and socio-economic issues.
“Establishing critical mass and resourcing an underpenetrated Sub-Saharan Africa is integral to our overall recruitment strategy and long-term vision,” said Carlman Moyo, regional director for DuPont Sub-Saharan Africa.
DuPont employs 300 highly-skilled employees across Sub-Saharan Africa, an economy that is expected to double during the next decade. To accelerate growth in the region and exploit the many opportunities in the continent, the team plans to more than double its workforce within the next five years.
Talent mobility in Africa is vastly different to that of more established markets and poses unique challenges. The continent is faced with a significant shortage of skilled labor, especially in specialized areas that require a science background.
“Employment equity plays a critical role in the acquisition and retention of talent,” said Luyolo Geza, Human Resources leader for DuPont Sub-Saharan Africa. “As such, companies that embrace diversity and offer opportunities to the multiplicity of cultures in Africa have the competitive advantage and ability to attract extraordinary talent, skills and competencies.”
With the recent transformation of the DuPont South African branch office to a fully-fledged local subsidiary, DuPont is proudly African. DuPont Sub-Saharan Africa is committed not only to growing the DuPont footprint in the continent, but also to put our science to work in the education and development of Africa.
“We are not only committed to contributing toward the economic growth of DuPont, but also to that of the continent,” Carlman said. “Through our recruitment drive, we will comply with the local government’s employment equity regulations and take into account Africa’s unique job climate.”
Recruiting Africa is an elite event that enables talented professionals from all fields to interact directly with recruiters from leading organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event attracted more than 2,000 pre-selected candidates, and about 100 resumes were collected by the DuPont recruitment team.
