Metro is showing off its new diesel-electric hybrid buses and MetroAccess vehicles paid for by stimulus funds.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff and members of congress visited Metro's bus facility in Landover on Monday, where some of the new vehicles were displayed near a paint and body shop under construction. Metro is receiving nearly $202 million from the federal government, including $52 million for the new vehicles and the new paint and body shop.

The 48 new buses, which cost $27 million, were built by New Flyer Industries, a Canadian company that runs manufacturing plants in Minnesota. The 80 new MetroAccess vans were built by Ford in Ohio and the paratransit conversion was completed by Braun Corporation in Indiana for a total of $3.7 million.
