Eastman Chemical To Increase CHDM Capacity

Company is increasing manufacturing capacity for the chemical compound used to make specialty plastic products by 25 percent at its facility in Kingsport, Tenn.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- Eastman Chemical Co. said Friday that it is increasing its CHDM manufacturing capacity by 25 percent at its facility in Kingsport, Tenn.

CHDM is a simple chemical compound that is used to make specialty plastic products.

Eastman plans to beef up capacity in two parts: It intends to finish the first phase by the middle of next year, and the second phase in 2012.

Shares of Eastman Chemical, which makes chemicals, fibers and plastics, fell 86 cents to $62.82 in afternoon trading.
