Boeing will open a new manufacturing facility at an airport in Southern Illinois, which will add 75 new manufacturing jobs.

Boeing's defense business in based in St. Louis. It said the facility in the St. Louis suburb of Mascoutah, Ill, just across the Mississippi River, will use leased space in an existing building to house assembly work. It's expected to open late this year or early in 2011.

Boeing said it employs 16,000 people in St. Louis area, making F/A-18 and F-15 fighters and C-17 transport planes, as well as weapons.

Shares of Chicago-based Boeing Co. fell $1.57, or 2.4 percent, to $64.43 in afternoon trading.
