TIPTON, Ind. (AP) -- A solar panel manufacturer won't start hiring perhaps hundreds of workers for a central Indiana factory until it has ramped up production at its Colorado plant.
Abound Solar president Tom Tiller says the company doesn't have a specific timeline yet for starting up the factory near Tipton.
The company plans to move into an 800,000-square-foot plant where a Chrysler supplier stopped construction last year. It is receiving $400 million in federal loan guarantees toward the factories in Indiana and Longmont, Colo.
Tiller said the Tipton factory will only need minor interior changes and that production there could start by 2013.
Abound targets commercial-scale solar installers and electric utilities. Its main customers so far are based in Germany.
