Praxair To Open Gas Manufacturing Plant In Virginia

One of the largest industrial gases companies in the world is investing more than $15 million to open a manufacturing plant in Virginia.

HOPEWELL, Va. (AP) -- One of the largest industrial gases companies in the world is investing more than $15 million to open a manufacturing plant in Virginia.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Tuesday that Praxair will locate its operation on the property of the Osage Bio Energy facility in Hopewell. The project will create 17 jobs with an average salary of $50,000.

McDonnell says the project helps reinvest in Virginia's new green economy.

Praxair plans to capture and purify carbon dioxide from the bio energy facility and market it in applications like freezing food, making carbonation, and extracting natural gas from the ground.

Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia for the project.
