Hyundai Heavy Picks Alabama For First U.S. Plant

Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industry is locating its first American manufacturing plant in Alabama, creating 480 jobs.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industry is locating its first American manufacturing plant in Alabama, creating 480 jobs.

Company executives joined state and local officials Friday to announce the $90 million project will be located in Montgomery.

The plant will make large power transformers. Groundbreaking is expected later this month with production beginning in early 2012.

Another Korean-based company, the automaker Hyundai, also put its first American assembly plant in Montgomery. The two companies are not related.
