BELLE, W.Va. (AP) -- The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a West Virginia DuPont plant for exposing workers to hazardous chemicals.
Monday's citations and $43,000 fine followed OSHA's investigation into a series of leaks at DuPont's Belle plant in January.
One worker died after being exposed to phosgene, an ingredient used to produce plastics and pesticides.
DuPont Co. was cited for 11 violations, including failure to properly inspect the piping used to transfer phosgene in the plant.
An investigation showed that an aging pipe, corrosion and excess pressure caused the pipe to break and spray 58-year-old Carl Fish.
A telephone call to the plant seeking comment was not immediately returned Monday.
