State fire marshal's office says a fire at Carter Brothers go-kart manufacturing plant in Brundidge, Ala., last week was caused by arson.

BRUNDIDGE, Ala. (AP) -- The state fire marshal's office says a fire at a go-kart manufacturing plant in Pike County last week was caused by arson.

Steve Holmes, a spokesman for the fire marshal's office, said Tuesday inviestigators have discovered the origin and cause of the blaze at the Carter Brothers manufacturing plant, located off U.S. 231 in Brundidge.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The fire marshal's office says the blaze caused between $16 million and $20 million in damage and destroyed the 160,000-square-foot warehouse.

Sharon Fortune, the shipping manager at the plant, said the family-owned business employed about 65 people. The company manufactures go-karts and distributes scooters.
