Wind Turbine Plant To Be Built In Oklahoma

Eagle Claw Fabricators, part of Word Industries Inc. of Tulsa, says it expects to hire 175 people at a plant to be built in the Port of Muskogee that will make wind-turbine towers.

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A subsidiary of a Tulsa-based company says it expects to hire 175 people at a plant to be built in the Port of Muskogee that will make wind-turbine towers.

Eagle Claw Fabricators LLC, part of Word Industries Inc. of Tulsa, announced its plans Tuesday.

The company said it would build a 150,000-square-foot, $28 million plant in the industrial park operated by the Port of Muskogee. Eagle Claw said ground should be broken for the plant in the next three months, and production could start as early as 2011.

The towers to be manufactured at the facility will support turbines that produce electricity as the wind turns huge blades.

"The ... facility in Oklahoma will be located in the primary wind area of the United States, often referred to as the 'Saudi Arabia of Wind' corridor," Eagle Claw says on itw web site.
