Alabama Auto Parts Maker Expanding Plant

SL Alabama says it plans to expand capacity at its Alexander City plant by 35 percent and add 200 jobs.

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) -- Auto parts maker SL Alabama says it plans to expand its Alexander City plant and add 200 jobs.

JS Kim, president of SL Alabama, said the company will soon undergo a 75,000 square foot expansion will increase its capacity by 35 percent.

The automobile manufacturing plant currently has more than 500 employees, and expects to be able to add more than half of the new jobs before the end of 2010.

The expansion will cost almost $3 million for the building, and over the next two years more than $20 million in machinery and equipment will also be added.

SL moved to its current location in 2003.
