Packaging Plant Gets $53M Expansion

Arkansas paper mill that employs more than 1,000 people has dedicated a $53 million expansion that will enable it to reduce waste and better compete in global market.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) -- A Pine Bluff paper mill that employs more than 1,000 people has dedicated a $53 million expansion that will enable the plant to reduce waste and better compete in the global market.

Evergreen Packaging specializes in making cartons to hold liquid and other coated paper products. The mill covers all steps in the papermaking process, taking in raw wood that's converted to paper, finished and shipped. Its products are used around the world.

The company is getting a state tax credit for materials and machinery used in the expansion.

Evergreen is owned by the New Zealand-based Rank Group and operates the former International Paper mill.
