RIPLEY, Miss. (AP) -- Furniture manufacturer Albany Industries is expanding its operation in Ripley in northeast Mississippi and could hire up to 200 more workers.

The company, based in New Albany, Miss., tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that it has acquired the former Agracel facility in the North Ripley Industrial Park.

Albany hopes to begin production in late June.

Albany was founded in 1995 with 15 employees. The upholstered furniture maker and importer now has nearly 500 employees at its 700,000-square-foot facility in Union County.

Officials say the Ripley site will be used for manufacturing, as well as a customer pickup location.
