DAPHNE, Ala. (AP) -- A Hyundai executive says steadily recovering U.S. auto sales are making prospects excellent for the company's Montgomery factory to remain at full production.
David Zuchowski, senior vice president of Hyundai Motor Corp. of North America, says the Montgomery plant shipped 28,000 vehicles last month and dealers are asking for more.
Zuchowski says the Montgomery plant, which operates with 2,800 workers at full capacity, is building the new Turbo Sonata, but not the model's hybrid version.
He says Hyundai expects to build between 10,000 and 12,000 hybrids, but that manufacturing is being done in Korea because the batteries used in the vehicles are Korean-built. Zuchowski says the Montgomery plant is expected to build about 200,000 Sonatas this year.
