PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) -- Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding is considering a return to a five-day work week at its shipyards in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Company officials met with union representatives on Thursday in Pascagoula.
The four-day work week was agreed upon years ago by both the company and the unions, but outside the labor contract. Either side can go back to the five-day work week with 30-day's notice.
Northrop Grumman vice president Irwin F. Edenzon said that the company is evaluating the change.
Northrop Grumman has about 12,000 workers at the Ingalls yard in Pascagoula and about 17,000 overall in its operations, including Gulfport and Louisiana yards in Avondale and Tallulah.
Workers are currently under a labor contract that ends March 2012.
