CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- An Italian company has dropped plans to open a chemicals and abrasives plant in Charleston.

Accountant Patrick Smith says the company, New Finishing Line, no longer exists. Smith's accounting firm worked for the company.

New Finishing Line was a subsidiary of Varese, Italy-based Catalfer SRL. In 2006, Pasquale Catalfamo, Catalfer's president and chief executive officer, had announced plans for a plant that would employ up to 40 people.

The Charleston Gazette newspaper says Catalfamo did not respond to messages about the company's West Virginia operations.
