CommScope To Close Nebraska Plant, Cut 400 Jobs

Cable parts manufacturer says it will close its Omaha plant late next year, as it relocates operations to other U.S. facilities.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- CommScope Inc. has announced it will close its Omaha plant late next year, eliminating about 400 manufacturing jobs.

The Omaha plant, operating as a Connectivity Solutions Manufacturing Inc. subsidiary, manufactures parts used in cable networks. CommScope said Wednesday those operations would be relocated to its other U.S. facilities.

CommScope President and Chief Operating Officer Eddie Edwards cited economic conditions in announcing the closure.

CommScope estimates the restructuring will cost $45 million to $53 million, but it will save $18 million to $22 million a year by closing the Omaha plant.

CommScope says 70 workers that perform corporate duties will be moved to a new location in Omaha.

The company is based in Hickory, N.C.
