Auto Parts Maker Closes Virginia Plant

Japanese-owned TECHMA USA ceased production Tuesday and closed its plant in Gretna, Va., resulting in 89 layoffs.

GRETNA, Va. (AP) -- Auto-parts producer TECHMA USA has ceased production and closed its plant in Gretna.

The Japanese-owned company ceased production Tuesday, after 12 years of operation. The closure resulted in 89 layoffs.

Company officials announced in January that the plant would cease operations in mid-March.

The company manufactures electrical components and cable harness assemblies for the automotive industry. It's a subsidiary of TECHMA Corp. of Japan.

At one time, the plant employed about 200 people.
