GRAMERCY, La. (AP) -- Groundbreaking is scheduled Feb. 3 in Gramercy for a sugar refinery that owners say will be able to produce a million tons of sugar a year.
Louisiana Sugar Refining LLC says that's one of the highest capacities in the country.
The corporation is a joint venture among Cargill, Imperial Sugar Company, and Sugar Growers and Refiners, Inc. — a cooperative representing eight mills and more than 700 Louisiana sugar growers.
Imperial owns the current sugar refinery at Gramercy.
