AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- The manufacturer of Purell hand sanitizer has boosted production and is quickly hiring more workers but says it's still struggling to stay ahead of flu season demand.
Angela Watkins, a spokeswoman for Akron, Ohio-based GOJO Industries Inc., stresses that the company does not anticipate any shortages of Purell.
But GOJO President Mark Lerner recently let customers know in a letter that there are limits to how much Purell can be produced in a short time, even with the expanded production.
Some orders have gone out late, and some customers have had to settle with bottles of a different size than they wanted.
Bruce Sherman, whose Cleveland area company sells cleaning products to gyms, complains his supplier keeps telling him Purell products are backordered.
