Cooper Tire Expanding Texarkana Factory

Company has announced it will add 200 jobs to its Texarkana, Ark., operation and start running the plant around the clock, seven days a week.

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) -- Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has announced it will add 200 jobs to its Texarkana operation and start running the plant around the clock, seven days a week.

The company said in a news release Monday that it is seeing increased demand for its tires. The added work is to start Jan. 1.

Last December, the Texarkana plant's 1,400 workers agreed to a new contract that made significant concessions, including a three-year wage freeze and changes to their health plan. The company pitted its plants against one another in seeking savings. Cooper closed its Albany, Ga., plant. Cooper has other U.S. plants at Tupelo, Miss., and at its headquarters of Findlay, Ohio.

Last month, Cooper announced a $6 million expansion at Tupelo.
