Sauer-Danfoss Closing Kansas Plant

Maker of hydraulic power systems says it will close its Lawrence, Kan., plant, leaving 100 people without jobs.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Sauer-Danfoss, a maker of hydraulic power systems, says it will close its Lawrence plant, leaving 100 people without jobs.

The German-based company said Monday that the plant in east Lawrence would close by the end of June.

Sauer-Danfoss cited a steep decline in demand for the motors and transmissions for off-road equipment that it produces as the reason for the closing.

The company says fewer than 25 employees will be offered transfers to other Sauer-Danfoss plants.

Matt Bendler, a human resources director for the company, says sales are down nearly 50 percent from the $2.1 billion recorded last year.
