Chemtura Plans To Close Indiana Factory

Household chemicals maker has asked a New York bankruptcy court to let it consolidate operations at its Bio-Lab Inc. plant in Ashley, Ind., into a Georgia factory.

ASHLEY, Ind. (AP) -- A company that makes household chemicals plans to close a northeastern Indiana factory where 55 people work.

Chemtura Corp. has asked a New York bankruptcy court to let it consolidate operations at its Bio-Lab Inc. plant in Ashley into a Georgia factory. Chemtura spokesman John Gustavsen says the company expects the closure to be approved as a cost-saving measure.

Chemtura said in its court filing that closing the factory about 30 miles north of Fort Wayne would be complete within nine months.

The company filed for bankruptcy protection in March, citing the recession and a loss of business.
