Rolls-Royce Ready To Start Va. Plant Construction

Executives with Rolls-Royce expect to start construction on first phase of the company's planned aircraft-engine components plant in Prince George County this fall.

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (AP) -- Executives with Rolls-Royce PLC say they expect to start construction on the first phase of the company's planned aircraft-engine components plant in Prince George County this fall.

Thomas Loehr, an executive vice president with Rolls-Royce North America, said the site is "shovel-ready."

The planned start of construction would come nearly two years after Rolls-Royce announced that it would invest $100 million to build an aerospace manufacturing campus in Prince George. The British company's North American headquarters are in Reston.

Construction on the production plant for discs used in civil aircraft is expected to start in late September or early October and be completed in late 2010.
