Pennsylvania Chemical Company Restarts Idled Plant

Indspec Chemical Corp. is restarting its idled chemical plant in western Pennsylvania with all of its more than 250 workers expected back by next week.

PETROLIA, Pa. (AP) -- An idled chemical plant in western Pennsylvania is getting back to business this week, with all of its more than 250 workers expected back by next week.

Indspec Chemical Corp.'s plant is in Petrolia, about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. The plant makes several chemicals including resorcinol, an adhesive used to manufacture tires.

The plant idled in March so the company could reduce inventories as the poor economy hit the automotive industry affecting manufacturers of auto-related products.

When Indspec announce plans to idle the plant, 14 workers opted to retire instead of waiting for it to reopen.

Plant manager Dave Dorko says a skeleton crew worked on various capital projects at the plant while it was idled.
