GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Dell is preparing a report on layoffs at its North Carolina computer plant for the Winston-Salem City Council, a newspaper reported Monday.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported that Dell has made two rounds of layoffs at its Forsyth County operations in the past two months, but hasn't said how many jobs were cut.
Dell is receiving $37 million in local incentives and said it will make a report to the council Monday.
Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines called the meeting after Dell didn't say how many people lost their jobs.
Company spokesman Venancio Figueroa said several executives will attend the meeting.
"We're going to be there to provide an update on our operations," he said.
Joines called the meeting early last month.
"We view ourselves as partners in the project," Joines said at the time. "We're very proud of Dell and very appreciative of the remaining jobs there and want them to be successful. On the other hand, we have to be viewed as a partner, and citizens expect us as elected officials to represent their interests."
Dell came to Forsyth County in 2004 after state and local governments offered incentives worth at least $280 million over a 20-year period. The company must make annual reports to the state and city to show it is meeting employment levels to receive annual incentive payments.
Dell has invested more than $100 million in the plant. It must employ 1,700 workers by September 2010 to keep receiving payments. Dell said last year it employed 1,400.
