Ormet Files Court Order Against Glencore

Aluminum maker is seeking a court order against Glencore International to prevent the Swiss commodities producer from halting alumina deliveries to its southeast Ohio plant.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Aluminum maker Ormet Corp. says it is seeking a court order against Glencore International AG to prevent the Swiss commodities trader and producer from halting alumina deliveries to its southeast Ohio plant.

Ormet says it filed on Thursday for a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

The company says it has a contract for the alumina deliveries and that stopping shipments would force it to close its aluminum-producing plant at its headquarters in Hannibal, which employs about 1,000 workers.

Ormet Chief Executive Officer Mike Tanchuk says the Swiss company no longer wants to make the shipments because aluminum prices have declined.

Glencore spokesman Marc Ocskay says some alumina shipped to Ormet comes from a refinery that has been temporarily shut down, and the company is not required to provide it from another source.
