LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm wants the man leading the White House effort to lend assistance to cities that depend on the auto industry to understand how badly Michigan is hurting.
Ed Montgomery will meet with Granholm and her economic team Wednesday before meeting Mayor Ken Cockrel in Detroit.
Speaking on WKAR radio, the governor says Michigan is on track to lose 760,000 jobs by the end of next year compared with the number of jobs it had in 2001. That's more than three times the 230,000 jobs lost after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005.
She says Montgomery needs to understand that "we have really been slammed."
The White House is looking for ways automakers and suppliers can retrench to remain solvent.
