KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Navigational device maker Garmin Ltd. is teaming up with a Taiwan-based manufacturer to get into the market for feature-rich mobile phones.
More than a year after Garmin first announced it was releasing its own line of smart phones, the company said Wednesday it will work with ASUSTek Computer Inc. to develop and build the devices.
The first device, called the Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60, will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, later this month and begin shipping by June 30.
Garmin is headquartered in Olathe, Kan., and is the world's largest maker of navigational devices using satellite technology. It's trying to compete with an increasing number of cell phones that use location-based technology.
