DETROIT (AP) -- Plans are proceeding for a national convention in Detroit on manufacturing, technology, energy and the environment despite worsening economic woes.
Registration began online Wednesday for The National Summit, scheduled for June 15-17 at Ford Field.
Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford and CEO Andrew Liveris announced plans in September to co-host the summit.
Since then, there have been broad layoffs across the industries. Two of Detroit's automakers have received billions in government loans to survive.
Economic Club President Beth Chappell says organizers have lowered attendance estimates from 5,000 to about 4,000. But they are pleased that more than 40 CEOs have accepted speaking invitations -- more than half from outside Michigan.
