BAE Receives Mine-Resistant Vehicle Parts Contracts

Military contractor BAE Systems said Monday it has received six U.S. Army contracts valued at $115 million for replacement parts for mine-resistant vehicles in Iraq.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Military contractor BAE Systems said Monday it has received six U.S. Army contracts valued at $115 million for replacement parts for mine-resistant vehicles in Iraq.

The contracts from the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command include engines, transmissions, axles and self-recovery winches for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.

The order fulfills requirements for spare parts to maintain about 1,650 Caiman MRAP vehicles in Iraq. Filling the contract orders will be completed by August, BAE Systems said.

Shane Burns, Caiman project manager at BAE Systems, said the Caiman has a 95 percent operational readiness rate and the items are helping to maintain and improve the rate.

BAE Systems Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of London-based BAE Systems PLC.
