SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- TrinityRail, a freight rail-car manufacturer, plans to close a Springfield plant and lay off 228 workers.
The company, a division of Dallas-based Trinity Industries, began operating the plant after it purchased the Springfield Railway Services facility from Anheuser-Busch in 1998.
A statement from the company said workers in Springfield were told Dec. 2 that the plant would close Feb. 2.
The Wednesday annoucement came a day after Aaron's Automotive Products announced the closing of a Springfield plant, a loss of 184 manufacturing jobs. Some of those jobs could move to an Oklahoma City plant.
TrinityRail manufactures tank and freight cars as well as rail-car components in facilities in the United States and Mexico. The company also operates a rail-car repair network in the United States.
The company says the plant closure is due to a downturn in orders in that sector of the business.
