Spirit AeroSystems Back To Full Work Week

Workers at Spirit AeroSystems’ Wichita, Kan., plant, who have been working just three days a week since September, will resume five-day work schedules earlier than expected.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Spirit AeroSystems says it will resume five-day work schedules a little earlier than expected in its Wichita plant.

Most of the 10,500 employees have been working just three days a week since September when Boeing Co. Machinists went on a 57-day strike. Spirit is a major supplier for Boeing.

Spirit officials had expected the shortened work weeks to remain in effect until the end of January because of the backlog of parts that stacked up during the strike.

Spirit spokeswoman Debbie Gann says most employees will resume their full schedules on Jan. 5 or Jan. 12, depending on the program they work on.
